Doors Open Denver 2011

This April, many of Denver’s iconic buildings will be opening up their doors to strut their architectural beauty.  Doors Open Denver celebrates innovation and design within architecture.

Doors Open Denver is a free event that takes place the weekend of April 16 – 17, 2011.

Participating buildings and organizations open their doors to let viewers look, experience and examine the buildings at their leisure.  Guided tours will also be available.

The viewing and tours are free, but the expert-led tours must be pre-registered for.

There are also different types of self-guided tours, called Urban Adventures, that have different themes such as “Art & Architecture Spaces”, “Family Fun” or “Romancing Denver”.

This year’s Doors Open Denver will be focusing on Modern Architecture, from the 50’s and beyond.

I’m planning on attending this year’s Door Open Denver not only to view, explore, gawk, and stoke my sense of wonderment at Denver’s architectural gems at my leisure, but also to go on a few guided tours so that I can learn the history behind architectural feats in Denver.  I’m also seeking out modern passive solar architecture.

Here’s a building that was featured in last year’s Doors Open Denver along with a link to last year’s 2010 Doors Open Denver article.

Check out this year’s schedule of events over at the City of Denver’s Doors Open 2011 event website.
